7●Chair: Masayuki Kobayashi ●Chair: Shinichi Fuji In this department, we conduct research on the elucidation of the life phenom-ena of a wide range of organisms such as animals, microorganisms, and plants, and the effective use of materials unique to Akita Prefecture, aiming to make highly effective use of these biological resources for use in a wide range of industries, and to train intellectual experts who can solve problems in the fields of "life" and "food" with the power of science. The goal of education in this department is to nurture future researchers and engineers in the life sciences, food, and brewing industries, and the goal of research is to contribute to society by creating useful substances and developing new functions using biological resources as materials. In this department, we discover problems related to the natural environment and biological resources that extend from the regions familiar to us to the global scale, and conduct education and research on the utilization and conservation of biological resources in human life, the restoration and restoration of the natural environment, etc. Students who have learned the basics of biology, chemistry, environmental science, etc. will advance to one of four research groups and work hand in hand with researchers in different fields of specialization and local people inside and outside the department to contribute to the effective use of biological resources in harmony with the environment, while using various ecosystems from the mountains of Akita to the sea as teaching materials.Plants support life on the earth by perfecting their own growth system that adapts to the environment using solar energy in the process of evolution. In addition to food, people are also involved in building materials and clothing. We depend on plants for many of the materials we need for our lives. Compounds synthesized by plants are attracting renewed attention as a resource to replace petroleum, alcohol, and plastics are being produced from plants. This is in line with the need of modern society to recycle resources with an awareness of environmental conservation. This department fosters human resources who can contribute to the promotion and development of new industries related to plant production by scientifically understanding the abilities of plants and drawing out their superior functions through biotech-nology.The agribusiness that this department aims for is a diverse society related to agriculture and rural areas that anticipates distribution and consumption, and realizes them by reading the new needs of the times, while focusing on agricultural production. It means targeted and economic activities. These activities will lead to agriculture and related industries collaborating to utilize agricultural products and other local resources, propose new products, promote regional branding, and create sustainable regional economic power. Students acquire production techniques for various agricultural and livestock products, cultivate deep insight into the natural environment, and acquire a sense of management with an eye on the future by learning about three areas (techno-logical innovation in agricultural and livestock production, new agricultural and rural development and measures to preserve the local environment, and the future of agriculture, rural areas, and food industries) according to their objectives.Akita Campus/Ogata Campus Bioresource Sciences Faculty● 〈4 departments〉 Admission capacity: 150 students● Dean: Nobushige Nakazawa● Associate Dean: Kenichiro Nagahama Department of Applied Biological Sciences●Enrollment Capacity: 40 students Department of Biological Production Sciences●Enrollment Capacity: 40 students Department of Agribusiness●Enrollment Capacity: 40 students ●Chair: Hiroshi Rozaki Pursued with the latest technology,New possibilities for "symbiosis"between people and biological resources.Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences●Enrollment Capacity: 40 students ●Chair: Naoyuki Miyata
