Her current working manuscript examines Japanese archi-tectural activities and urban culture in colonial Manchuria. She is also interested in the ex-change of people, materials, and ideas within the Japanese empire during the first half of the twentieth century. Yang teaches courses in modern Japanese art and architecture, urban-ism, and colonial modernity of East Asia.専 門:日本文学、日本思想史専門分野:Weiss’s research focuses on the history of ideas, especially the mythology of ancient Japan and its function in Japan’s cultural memory, including its utilization in modern nation-build-ing and in justifying colonial rule. More broadly, he is interested in the intercultural transfer of ideas (especially within the Sinosphere) and questions of identity formation (perceptions of self and other).
