The Section of LiteratureThis undergraduate Section consists of Japanese Language and Literature, Chinese Literature, Anglo-American Language and Literature, German Literature, and French Literature. Each discipline takes as its object the language and literature of one or more peoples, offering specialized lectures and research on each.The Section of Human SciencesThis undergraduate Section comprises Linguistics/Applied Linguistics, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, and Comparative Religion. The Linguistics division studies individual and universal aspects of language. The Geography division concerns theories and study of the human spatial environment. The Sociology division concentrates on theoretical and empirical studies of modern society. The Psychology division aims to clarify the mechanisms of the human mind. The Comparative Religion division is centered on the field study of various religions.The Graduate School of HumanitiesThe Department of Philosophy This graduate Department is subdivided in Philosophy, Ethics, the History of Indian Philosophy, the History of Chinese Philosophy, and Art Studies. Since October 2011, the Department also offers the English-taught International Master’s Program (IMAP) in Japanese Humanities. The Department of History and GeographyThis graduate Department comprises Japanese History, Asian History, Korean History, Archaeology, Western History, the History of Islamic Civilization, and Geography.The Department of Linguistics and Literature This graduate Department is divided into six specializations: Japanese Language and Literature, Chinese Literature, English Language and Literature, German Literature, French Literature, and Linguistics.Kyushu University has kept pace with the progressive internationalization of Japan by encouraging a broad range of exchanges between researchers and students here and abroad. The fruits of these efforts are reflected partly in the growing number of scholarly exchange agreements we have entered into with foreign universities: 151 at the university level and five at the faculty level, located in thirty-seven countries. There are at present eighty-four foreign students enrolled in the Schools.83International Exchange
