Sustainable Development CourseCarbon free, safe, and smart societyMaterials and energy designEnvironmental system for stock-based societyHideki Nakamura / Hirokazu Kato / Shoichi Iwamatsu / Xin Zhang / Tsuyoshi FujitaCities and national land in the future will be required to achieve a significant reduction in their environmental burden on the earth by promoting decarbonization and resource saving measures. At the same time, they should also respond to major natural disasters which are likely to increase in intensity due to climate change, and declining and aging populations which are often observed when an economy matures, so that people can enjoy a stable and affluent life. In this unit, we conduct education and research on technology and system organizations for effectively utilizing land resources, and improving, maintaining, and managing good building and infrastructure stock that will contribute to the realization of cities and national land supporting sustainable development. Takashi Hibino / Anatoly Zinchenko / Masahiro NagaoIn order to establish a sustainable society, it is necessary not to rely on limited resources but to effectively utilize resources that have been unused or discarded. In addition, it is necessary to purify and regenerate air, soil and water pollution accompanying environmental changes with high efficiency and low cost. For that purpose, optimization and systematization of material, energy, and information conversion processes are required by developing new environmental functional materials and controlling their functions. In this field, we conduct research and education based on material design, measurement, evaluation, and comprehensive management system.Hiroki Tanikawa / Hiroaki Shirakawa / Hiroto Shiraki / Masatoshi Hasegawa / Nagahisa Hirayama / Toshiaki Ichinose Keisuke Nansai In order to ensure the sustainable development of society and establish safe and stable lives for people, it is necessary to understand the environmental and social structure based on harmonization between nature and artifacts and address complicated environmental problems. In this unit, we conduct education and research on the establishment of a stock-based, decarbonized, and recycling-oriented society that is in harmony with nature, based on environmental systems engineering that understands the connections between the natural environment and society, from the viewpoint of the material environment and accumulation in the social economy.
