The Graduate School of Environmental Studies helps students improve their specialized knowledge in each traditional field relating to nature, cities and society, demonstrating ways to find solutions to various environmental problems by integrating the knowledge of various specialized fields, and encourages them to make use of the results of their studies for the development of each such field.In order to cover a wide range of environmental issues, the Graduate School of Environmental Studies consists of the following departments:The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, which studies the Earth as a planet, as well as the nature, dynamism and change of its surface atmosphere/hydrosphere; the Department of Environmental Engineering and Architecture, which studies the factors affecting the creation of an urban environment, such as social infrastructure and architecture, aiming to ensure harmony with natural environmental factors such as water, plant life and soil; and the Department of Social and Human Environment, which examines the relationships between human behaviors and their surrounding social environment, and proposes environmental policies.By means of interdisciplinary collaborations among these departments, we carry out education and research on environmental studies, hoping to bring about the realization of a sustainable and safe/stable society.（1）Admission Policy＜Master’s Course＞ The Graduate School of Environmental Studies Master’s Course accepts individuals who demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for deepening their expertise, acquiring an ability to think with a cross-sectional approach, resolving environmental issues, and pioneering a new field of study. Successful applicants should also demonstrate sufficient basic knowledge in their specialized subjects. Those from both inside and outside of Japan are accepted, and adults seeking to deepen their knowledge are also welcome.＜Doctoral Course＞ The Graduate School of Environmental Studies Doctoral Course accepts individuals who have extensive knowledge in their specialized subjects and an ability to apply their expertise extensively and demonstrate a strong enthusiasm for deepening their expertise, acquiring an ability to think with a cross-sectional approach, resolving environmental issues, and pioneering a new field of study. Successful applicants should also have sufficient training to become researchers and leaders in the international community. Those from Japan and overseas are accepted, and adults seeking to deepen their knowledge are also welcome.（2）Basic Policy of Selecting Applicants＜Master’s Course＞ Applicants are tested for their basic knowledge in specialized subjects, English proficiency, ability to apply specialized knowledge, ability to think with a cross-sectional approach, and enthusiasm for learning. Admission exams are also provided for international students and adult applicants seeking to deepen their knowledge. Applicants are selected through a written exam and an oral exam/interview. Applicants are evaluated for their basic knowledge in the written exam and enthusiasm for learning in the oral exam.＜Doctoral Course＞ Applicants are tested for knowledge in specialized subjects, English proficiency, ability to apply specialized knowledge, ability to think with a cross-sectional approach, and enthusiasm for learning, all of which are required to become researchers and leaders active in the international community.
