8I supervise the research of students who are interested in topics related to international trade and/or foreign direct investment（FDI） from the perspective of economics or economic analysis. I emphasize the importance of both theoretical and empirical analyses, and advise students about how to frame their research questions using an economic theoretical model and how to test the model’s theoretical prediction using data and econometric methods. I will alert students to the recent danger of “theories for the sake of theories”, while urging them to build theoretical frameworks and empirical studies with a solid grounding of realities.
