4New Research & Development Site called “Robotics, Engineering and Agriculture-technology Labo.” launched in 2018. This “Labo.” aims to create local innovation and to establish new industries at Tochigi prefecture with industry-academia-government collaboration. The project started utilizing advanced technologies such as robotics and next-generation technology of plant production which have been yielded by Engineering-Agriculture collaboration at our university.A research group led by Dr. Yutaka Kodama, Associate Professor of Center for Bioscience Research & Education, has discovered the system mentioned above and their paper was published in Proceeding of the National Academy of Sciences USA (PNAS).Dr. Yoshio Hayasaki, Professor of Center for Optical Research & Education, Elected to Fellow of SPIEThe world’s first revelation of how plants sense temperature-suggestion that commonprinciple underlies biological perception of temperature, which is expected to establish effective crop cultivation- SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics, is the international largest society for optics and photonics. Each year SPIE gives a title “Fellow” to the members those who made significant accomplishment or contributions in the multidisciplinary fields of optics, photonics, optoelectronics, and imaging. 73 members including Professor Hayasaki have been elected to 2018 Fellow.Utsunomiya University ranked THE World University RankingsUtsunomiya University was ranked 1,001+ in THE (Times Higher Education) World University Rankings 2019 conducted by a British company TES Global. 1,258 universities all over the world were listed in the ranking including 103 Japanese universities. As a university with no school of medicine, dentistry and pharmacy or science, it can be said that this result is a proof of our strenuous efforts.“Self-propelled strawberry picking robot” have been developed in Engineering-Agriculture collaboration project of our university. The technologies used in this robot are very unique. The robot can pick up strawberries without damage and it enables to exportstrawberries to overseas. Since such merits for agricultural producers are highly evaluated, the robot won “Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology Prize” on THE 7TH ROBOT AWARD. In addition, Tochigi prefecture takes pride in the most production volume and sales amount of strawberries in Japan.New Robot Technology Research & Development Site Launched on 2018Outstanding researches stepping out into the wider worldWhat’ s the Reason Why Utsunomiya University is so Delicious!?ColdWarm
