We are particularly focused on promoting practical research that leverages the local industries of Tochigi Prefecture. Each of the objectives set forth in the International Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) address the various challenges facing the world today, and we aim to develop graduates who can promote the science and technology innovation (STI) needed to achieve these goals.Across the five faculties of our university (Faculty of Regional Design Science, Faculty of International Studies, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Agriculture), we consolidated the individual master's programs of each individual faculty into a single cross-disciplinary graduate school in 2019. In order to reinforce this initiative, we have established a cross-disciplinary education and guided research program that fosters adaptive thinking skills focused on utilizing knowledge and skills in interdisciplinary areas and borders between disciplines. The School does not define “region” simply as a space or sphere in the geographical or physical sense of the word. According to our definition, “region” is a dynamic and diverse concept that refers to a research theme established in response to the issue at hand. Further, it is part of an interactive chain consisting of “local,” “regional,” “national,” and “global” components. As a university located in Tochigi Prefecture in the northern Kanto area, we actively pursue initiatives that contribute to the welfare of the local public sector, industry, and residents. In addition, we promote education and research encompassing diverse fields that correspond to the “regions” emphasized by each of these stakeholders. These fields include local communities, cities, regions (in the conventional sense of the term), the nation, and the international community.MissionMissionGraduate School of Regional Development and CreativityBy learning how to bridge separate science and technology disciplines, students learn how to adapt to and respond to diverse social issues.Fostering highly specialized professionals who can provide guidance to support sustainable local industries and society.• Combining biology, optical technology and chemistry• Through the integration of disciplines, students will acquire a broad education and create advanced innovations.• Contribution to international cooperation, development, community, and institutional designUniversity aimsDivision of Advanced Interdisciplinary Science (Doctoral Degree Program)“Region” in the Graduate School of Regional Development and Creativity
