EPUUisfirstandforemostcommittedtoequipstudentswiththeskillsandknowledgenecessaryforsuccessintheirfuturewhetheracademicallyorprofessionally.AspartoftheEPUUteam,myresearchagendaistodeveloptheconceptualframeworksandpedagogicalapproachestoguidetheprogramthatareinlinewithworldwidetertiaryeducationstandards,andalsomatchourstudentsneedsandtheuniqueeducationalcontextatUtsunomiyaUniversity.ThishasledtotheintegrationandstandardizationoftheEnglishprogram’scurriculawithinanEnglishforAcademicPurposesframework(EGAP)andresearchprojectsaimedatsupportingthisdevelopment.教育・研究活動の紹介MymainteachingfocusistotakecareofandkeepdevelopingtheHonorsprogram.ThisisthespeciallydevelopedEnglishcourseforstudentswithaTOEICscoreof750orhigher.Inaddition,forthedevelopmentoftheEGAPprogram,thecontinuedstandardizationofcoursesyllabiarebeingcreatedwithclearacademicobjectivesalignedwithgradingcriteriawithinvariouscourses.Thedifferentcomponentsoftheprogramarebeingalignedbothhorizontally(withinthesameyearcourses)andvertically(withindifferentyearcourses).AndthekeyresearchprojectsIaminvolvedinaredevelopingthewritingcomponentofthefirst-yearprogramandinvestigatingtheroleofmultimodalitywithinthelanguageclassroom.今後の展望SupportingtheEPUUteachingstaffintheirtransitiontoanEGAPprogramisapriority.AfteraninitialinductionprogramtotheEGAPapproach,thefocusisnowonteachingwritingskills.Iamcoordinatingtheteamtodevelopasupplementarywritingworkbookforfirst-yearstudentsthatwillbedevelopedovertheacademicyear.AfteridentifyingmultimodalityasakeyaspectoftheEGAPapproach,nowIaminvolvedinresearchinghowmultimodalpedagogycanimprovestudentengagementandoutcomes.Thisencompassesbrain-basededucationresearchandtheeffectiveimplementationoftechnologyintheclassroom.社会貢献等IamactivelyinvolvedintheJALTorganization,rightnowhelpingtosetupachapterinTochigi.Inaddition,IamamemberofJACETandBALEAP.（特徴と強み等）（社会活動特許等取得状況産学連携・技術移転の対応等）ーTESOL,AppliedLinguistics・CurriculumDevelopment・EnglishforGeneralAcademicPurposes(EGAP)・Multimodality#EGAPEnglishforGeneralAcademicPurposes#MultimodalityJALT,BALEAP,JACET2024年3月更新分野研究テーマキーワード所属学会等特記事項URL: -Mail: banwell[at]cc.utsunomiya-u.ac.jp研究概要TEL:028-649-8181基盤教育センター准教授DonalRorySeanBanwellEPUU
